The heat storage tanks we use work by using “phase-change” materials. These store thermal energy far more efficiently than water, the medium usually used. They absorb a large amount of thermal energy and release this back to a heating system on demand.
This type of heat storage tank is a new concept. They harness the energy of the sun using solar thermal heating panels. The dis-advantage of conventional solar thermal panels, for heating, is that they are most effective in the summer when heating for the building is not required.
Heat Storage Tanks are ideal for both domestic and commercial use. They will effectively improve boiler efficiency and maximise the solar gain from solar collectors. They reduce the number of times boilers have to stop and start reducing the running costs of the system. Because the heat generated can be stored it allows the use of larger than normal solar panels to take full effect of the storage capacity.
