This new modular building was commissioned using the Roland Hill Ltd modular construction system a solution that stands apart from standard modular approaches by allowing for truly bespoke, architecturally considered designs. Working closely with the school and project team, the design was carefully tailored to meet functional needs, site access, and layout constraints, resulting in a high-quality building that blends innovation with practicality.

The major on-site works (excluding the demolition of the previous kitchen) were completed in just seven weeks, from groundworks to handover. Impressively, the school’s Christmas lunch was one of the first meals served in the new facility. The school community has expressed their delight, particularly with the seamless integration between the kitchen and dining room. A spacious servery connects the two, with visibility into the kitchen.

The building's interior is filled with natural light and features modern ventilation and service systems for comfort and efficiency. Externally, a mix of cedar cladding and through-coloured render gives the structure a contemporary look that complements the school’s original Victorian architecture. An accessible entrance ramp finished with stainless steel handrails and glass balustrades ensures inclusivity and enhances the building's modern aesthetic.

The school are so pleased with the overall feel, look and execution of the building that they feel there will be a significant increase in the uptake of school dinners and the nutritional value that they can offer to all the pupils. This should lead to increased learning effectiveness and a greater promotion of community and belonging within the school.
